Is your rabbit vaccinated?

It is a sad fact that although the dangers of myxomatosis are well known to most owners, only 10% of pet rabbits in the UK are vaccinated against the disease. In addition, a recent survey of vets revealed that vaccination levels across all species of pets are falling as a result of the credit crunch.

The need for rabbits to be vaccinated - and for vaccinations to be kept up to date - are being highlighted as part of the second National Vaccination Month Campaign which runs throughout June.

To increase the numbers of animals vaccinated and help pet owners feeling the pinch, during June participating vets will be offering discounted vaccinations for rabbits (and also for dogs, cats and horses).

Owners of unvaccinated rabbits will be offered vaccination against myxomatosis for their pets with the second inoculation due in December provided free of charge.

*It is recommended that rabbits should also be vaccinated against VHD.'
