My poor pussy cat Stammy has to go back to the vets tomorrow for a check up Please everyone keep your fingers crossed he doesn't have to go through surgery Poor old boy is 14 and like alot of other cats he likes to lounge outside at times. Anyway, there is a new Tom cat around who keeps fighting for territory and a couple of weeks ago they ended up fighting. I checked Stammy over and he had an injury under his tail. We had this seen to and it started to heal. What we didn't see was the massive abscesses coming up on his back - well not until he started licking. Took him to the vet who shaved and drained them
He's been on anti biotics and worse still he's worn a buster collar for nearly 2 weeks :argh: The wound looks better to me now but need to see what the vet says in the morning. They have already explained that surgery at his age is risky. He has been a very brave and a very good boy (my nerves are shattered though - he makes a a mighty row about not being allowed out)

Thanks Chris He is such a sweet old boy. He seems fine in himself - eating & drinking loads, toilet is fine, still wants to go out The pictures were taken days ago and his back looks a bit better now (Toms bank balance doesn't look as healthy though).

Oh your poor baby! At least Stammy's wounds are looking clean from what I can see, which is very positive. Sending him lots of gentle hugs and healing thoughts.
the vet's happy with his progress tomorrow.
A big for you too! It's awful when they're poorly and fed up. I've got wailing coming from one of mine too because he's having to be isolated from the others. You just want to be able to tell them it's for their own good, but it's doesn't half make you feel guilty regardless!!

I sympathise Vicky - Stammy is also in isolation because otherwise the dogs won't leave him alone He's got a bedroom of his own, a king size bed to lay on, food, water and a clean litter tray - I even put the TV on for him Is he grateful ?? Not a chance - he keeps banging on the door and winding the dogs up Thank you for the healing thoughts ..... I hope your cat is better soon as well

hi vicky We took Stammy back this morning and the vet is pleased with his back. If he keeps doing as well he shouldn't need surgery Unfortunately he still had swelling in his tail so with 3 of us holding Stammy down, the vet made a bigger incision to allow it to drain (poor cat). Now I have to scrub it daily to keep it open and we go back next Thursday. Its going to be fun trying to scrub this wound ........ wish me luck
How is your cat doing ???
Maureen xx

Poor Stammy. At least that sounds positive overall, although I don't envy you trying to scrub his wounds. Wishing you lots of luck hun!!
It's going to be a very slow process with Gus. He came to me in a dreadful state: terribly matted fur that was ittitating him so much he was literally ripping out chunks of it himself , eczema, gingivitis, two broken teeth, no vaccs, no worm/flea treatments, cat flu, ringworm, ingrowing claws... he's been in and out of the vets for weeks and he's finally sorted with everything, including microchipping, except for the ringworm.
He's a nice boy but HATES having his scabs cleaned and the ointment put on and giving him his medication is nigh on impossible because he just gets soooo stressed, panics and has nearly hurt himself so many times when we've tried to do it. It's crazy, he's a British Blue so not exactly the biggest cat in the world and it took three nurses and a vet to give him his last tablet!!
I have to have a fresh change of clothes whenever I spend time with Gus, then afterwards have a quick shower and wear another change of clothes and now I seem to spend half the day washing, hoovering and steam cleaning everything!! *Touch wood* though, the other two are fine (I give them a good groom and check them over every day) and Gus is the only one in the house showing signs, but looking at him right now I don't see the routine changing anytime soon!
Anyway, I'm really glad the vet was pleased with Stammy. Give him a big cuddle from me too (and Gus sends him purrs! )

The worst thing is he was actually ill for some time... rotting away for a good few weeks in a commercial cattery ( having had no medical attention whatsoever) which is owned by the lady responsible for running the rescue.
As you can imagine I was not best pleased, but I couldn't just leave him there. I don't even want to think about how much it's cost in vets bills to date, but you just have to find a way don't you? You can't let poor animals suffer like he was.
Gus says thank you Stammy for his kitty hugs and he hopes he gets better soon!!

Gus is a lovely cat I hope he's improving day by day. Stammy is getting better, still has his collar on and he really dislikes it He must be feeling better because I have VERY sore toes at the moment. In bed the other night Stammy must have thought my foot was a lovely fat Pigeon or something - and he ATTACKED it He really made a mess of my toe
Love to Gus xxxxxxx
