I keep looking at the dogs needing homes and there are so many I want to take home but Geoff (OH) keeps saying no to dogs for at least another year. Yet I really really want Max and Loui (dalmation) and rufus and so many many more.

Help

I guess my method would be to think long and hard if i could really provide what another animal needs at this time in my life. Im having to do that with the ferrets but i'm having to seriously consider if my place is the best one for them with everything else going on...

Well see I think we could.

I dont work so I've got all the time in the world to look after them. The ONLY problems are finding a dog that will be ok with cats and aaliyah and also that we want to have another child (which is why Geoff keeps saying to wait)

Plus he doesn't think Lucky (cat) will cope.

Jenny, I know its hard when you really want something but untill you are both ready and both your hearts are fully into it sadly you will have to wait Throw Flowers

And better wait a year or even two if it mean you are all in the right place (in your heads) for a dog then you, your OH and children and dog will be really happy Happy Dance

Once Aaliyah's in nursery maybe you could starting helping out rescues by doing dog walking, etc.? I know Capricorn just up the road would really appreciate that. Smile

The other thing you need to think carefully about is the situation with your purries. Lucky's just starting to settle again and a dog in the house really wouldn't be good for her right now.

The time will come, and the perfect doglet for you *will* come along when you're finally ready. Hug

Sods law dictates that when Aaliyah goes to nursery I'll end up pregnant again!! Very Happy I shold just take aaliyah to capricorn maybe it'll wear her out!! Very Happy

Oh, you know what you could do??? Smile Go and apply to volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust.

Volunteers do anything from emergency fostering (if someone goes into hospital for instance), taking animals to and from vets, dog walking, etc etc. I met a lovely old lady in the vets in Caergwrle who was starting to struggle walking her boxer but couldn't afford to pay for a dog walker. I'm sure there are lots of other people in a similar situation who would really appreciate your help! Group Hug

I totally agree with you - OH's should be slapped into complying with what we want! lol

My OH thinks 2 dogs is enough. I disagree lol

although I do think we 'should' wait till both dogs are a bit older, that's only because I want to do some agility with Pepper and think another new member would mean that it would be quite hard to get her started.

I also have the added complication of moving office soon, so both dogs have to get used to being left the majority of the day sadly (currently hunting a dog walker, but they do have free roam of kitchen, large back room and secure garden via dog flap) so would probably be ignored by almost all rescues.

Thanks Kye!! Very Happy

I do actually agree with him the more I think about it. It would be easier to introduce a dog to the 2 kids rather than getting a dog now and then bringing a baby in to the situation. So I spose for now he wins.

Have been talking about fostering and after having Hugo for nearly 8 months he doesn't want to take fosters on as its a lot of money for a long time so I'm still working on that one.

It wont cost us alot of money but I think with rescues struggling we shouldn't expect them to pay for food and thats what he thinks we can't afford to do etc! MEN eh?! lol

I really can't afford the vet fees so I'd have to ask the rescue to do this but food I shouldnt really ask. Plus even when the rescue does pay for food he doesn't think we have the money to pay out and wait for the rescue to pay back anyway.

Fair enough

I think it is important for rescues to be able to either provide the food and other items needed or at least pay the money quickly.

We try to ensure that the day the dog arrives in a foster home a bag of food, bowls, bedding etc arrives at the same time.
